£17.00

Label Quarterhouse

We're very excited to announce that on the 1 April 2017 we celebrate all things psychedelic with a new festival for Folkestone, This Is Psychedelia. The festival starts at 6pm with five profiled psych artists covering a cross of genres and gender throughout the evening.

With visuals from Innerstrings, co- founders of Lewes Psychedelic festival and creator in part of what makes Liverpool Psych Fest look stunning, this promises to be the start of a brand new movement for Folkestone.

Tickets are priced at £15 in advance or £19 on the door. The line up includes:

*Vanishing Twin*
Our first band is the fantastic Vanishing Twin! Vanishing Twin is made up of a stella line up..singer Cathy Lucas (Orlando) drummer Valentina Magaletti (Raime, Tomaga, Uuuu, Neon Neon), bassist Susumu Mukai (Zongamin, Floating Points), library music head Phil M.F.U. (Man From Uranus) on strange sounds, and film maker and visual artist Elliott Arndt on flute and percussion.

For their debut album 'Choose Your Own Adventure’the band enlisted the help of producer Malcolm Catto (Heliocentrics, DJ Shadow, The Gaslamp Killer) and began work at his London studio, Quatermass Sound Lab, last spring. Recording the basis for eight tracks, they blended structure and improvisation in pop songs that describe a personal mythology through the adventures of Lucas’ vanished twin.

Drawing on sounds outside of the usual pop vocabulary, the group used forgotten drum machines, home-made electronics, vibraphones, tablas, and harp to invoke the esoteric psychedelia of lost soundtracks, radiophonic experiments and minimal music orchestras. In a studio that Catto built for maximum atmosphere and minimum interfere, and crammed with obscure vintage equipment, he brought his own distinctive sonics to the table, informed by outsider jazz, Italian library music and ethnographic field recordings.

*Cosmic Thoughts*
Cosmic Thoughts are a group from South East England. The band have a pedigree entrenched the DIY Punk movement in the UK, and have shared a stage with Enablers, Blood Sport, Cowtown, Viet Cong, Fear Of Men and more. Their debut LP (released on Hot Salvation Records, 2014) received minimal but critical acclaim, Norman Records said:
‘...simple chiming guitar hooks ringing out over a tight, focused rhythm section and often a drone.....Chatham-esque guitar, pounding repeato-rhythms and a measured sense of pace and melody that brings to mind 'Here Come The Warm Jets’

*The Lucid Dream*

The Lucid Dream commanded a stunning performance at Liverpool International Festival Of Psychedelia in 2013 . Since then, the band have gone from strength to strength to a shocking good set in 2016. We are very excited to have them playing at Folkestone. With expansive blissed out sonic guitar sounds with elements of dub and jazz, this is definitely one for fans of Spiritualized.

'more than a psych band, still a cut above.' Uncut Magazine

'they've quietly found themselves elevated into the psych scenes premier league. 'Compulsion Songs' aims for and eventually reaches the stars.8/10.' Drowned In Sound

Josefin Öhrn + The Liberation

Taking their moniker from the notion of ‘Liberation Upon Hearing In The Between’ from the Tibetan Book Of The Dead, Josefin Öhrn + The Liberation’ took little time to make their mark on the wider world, brandishing a radiant sound that stands effortlessly apart from the increasingly staid and often paradoxically predictable world of modern psychedelia. The band sculpt sprawling, hypnotic jams into elegant avant-pop nocturnal serenades.

They were nominated for a Swedish Grammy in 2015, which was followed in 2016 by making new fans with 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne and ultimately earning them appearances at Liverpool International Festival of Psychedelia and special guests of Goat.

*The Embrooks*

Formed at the tail end of 1996, The Embrooks (Alessandro Cozzi-Lepri—guitar, vocals; Mole—bass, vocals; Lois Tozer—drums) were initially influenced by the moody, minor key mid-60s US garage common to the New England area, and made an LP and 2 singles in that style. They quickly changed course towards the more aggressive sounds coming out of the UK and Europe in that same period, a transitional style which came to known as freakbeat. Here, the band found their true calling, and delivered their highest profile LP, ‘Our New Day’ for Bomp’s Voxx imprint.

Numerous tours through the UK and Europe were undertaken, and they even found time to cross the pond into the US and Canada on a number of occasions. The follow-up LP, ‘Yellow Glass Perspections’ saw the band incorporating more psychedelic elements to their sound, but still very much rooted in the aggressive Mod-Rock that had served them well.
