Terry Riley, Don Cherry and Karl Berger - Live in Köln 23.2.1975
By far one of my favourite records, and also one of my white whales. I missed out on the Modern Silence 2016 version due to some pooooor inventory management! Safe to say that will NOT happen on this new 2LP pressing on Alternative Fox!
Featuring two of the twentieth century's most important artists, Riley and Cherry transcend these earthly confines and confidently reach the outer limits of minimal music and jazz convention, pushing themselves and the audience in and out of masterful interplay. Cherry's trumpet on Descending Moonshine Dervishes seems to burst through Riley's ecstatic minimalist organ raga, it's euphoric like nothing ever heard on earth before it.
This will be a one-time version of this near-perfect recording I expect, and after the furore over the last, three years ago, I'd just say don't wait. Don't hesitate, you will not regret having this LP on your shelf. To be quite honest with you, I can see myself buying two.
